EMGS Lecturer Marek Wróblewski at the World Trade Organization in Geneva

Professor Marek Wróblewski from the University of Wroclaw (a member of EMGS Consortium) works in this semester at the World Trade Organization in Geneva. He has the opportunity to participate in the ongoing negotiations within this international organization, which is the center of the multilateral trading system. It should be noted that currently there is a very intensive time for the WTO because 11th Ministerial Conference (the topmost decision-making body of the organization) is approaching. The conference will take place from 10 to 13 December 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Prof. Wróblewski will be participating in this unique conference. While working in Geneva Prof. Wroblewski had also the possibility to meet and talk to Director General of the WTO Mr. Roberto Azevedo.

It is worth to underline that the WTO is an important institutional element of the global economic governance and might be also regarded as an excellent example of a global public good. The WTO rules and mechanisms like Dispute Settlement System as well as notifications manage international trade and thus creates more favorable (and predictable) conditions for international economic transactions. By promoting rules-based and transparent international trade system the WTO supports long-term development of member states, economic growth, and structural transformation.
