Events and Conferences

GESI organises and participates annually in a series of conferences and workshops. Generally in May its annual conference takes place. In 2009 it was devoted to the history of academic internationalisation around 1900, in 2010 to the history of media in a global perspective (co-organised by Frank Bösch, Gießen, and Matthias Middell) while the 2011 edition (organized by Stefan Aust, Munich) dealt with Russia and the Soviet Union in global history.

GESI as the headquarters of the European Network in Universal and Global History supports the tri-annual conferences of the network. The previous European Congresses on World and Global History (2005: Leipzig; 2008: Dresden; 2011: London; 2014: Paris) were major events also in the institute’s history.

Since 2008, David Lindenfeld (State University of Louisiana), Baton Rouge and Matthias Middell have chaired the World History Network at the bin-annual European Social Science and History Conference. Information on the next congresses programme is given here.

Events held at GESI since 2009 can be searched in our archive.
